October 25, 2007:   We have been in contact with Durham Region regarding the Liaison Committee. They advised us that they will NOT allow residents from outside of Brock Twp. to apply for a position on the Committee. Call (905) 668-7711 - Ext. 3523, with your comments.
     
October 24, 2007:   The MOE has not commented on whether Durham Region has submitted the Remedial Action Plan to the Approvals Branch of the MOE for final approvals. When we receive a reply, we will post a message on the website.

October 17, 2007:   NEW! The information on the "PUBLIC LIAISON COMMITTEE for the BROCK DUMP" has been announced. It can be found on the Township of Brock website. You can view it at: www.townshipofbrock.ca/services/new-brock-landfill-site-information. The deadline for submitting an application to be on this committee is Nov.1,2007.
     
October 3, 2007:   We received this information from Shawn Carey of the MOE concerning the Remedial Action Plan for the Brock dump: "Durham Region has NOT yet submitted their application to the ministry's Environmental Assessment & Approvals Branch". He also informed us that he will let us know when they have.
     
September 14, 2007:   A key component of the remediation efforts is an additional 126,000 of garbage and fill that will be deposited at the landfill in order to shape the site. The landfill currently accepts between 5,000 and 6,000 tonnes of waste per year from Brock Township.
     
Semptember 5, 2007:   Today we received an email from Durham Region titled "Brock Township Landfill Updates". Included in this report (among other reports) are the Provincial Officer's Order, The Remedial Action Plan (RAP), the Site Operations Report (SOR) and the proposed schedule Durham Region has issued for clean-up of the Brock Dump.

August 20, 2007:   The MOE advised us today that they have met with Durham Region. Among other things, it appears that Durham Region is going to continue with the plan to acquire the contaminated lands to the north of the dump. Also, the MOE recommended that Durham Region set up a meeting with the residents of Brock before submitting their plans to the Approval’s Branch of the MOE.
     
August 13, 2007:   We have been corresponding with Cliff Curtis, Commissioner, Works Department - Durham Region and as yet have not been advised when the meeting with the MOE will be.
     
July 23, 2007:   The following message from Cliff Curtis, Commissioner, Works Department, Durham Region.
"A date for the meeting with the Ministry of the Environment hasn't been confirmed yet, but we are actively trying to get it scheduled at the earliest opportunity. Once the remedial action plan is agreed to, and the necessary approvals received, we will start to implement it. Until the plan is finalized, I can't provide any advice on the timing or the extent of the work."
     
July 6, 2007:   The following message from Cliff Curtis, Commissioner, Works Department, Durham Region.
"The Region has recently received a response from the Ministry of the Environment's review of the Site Operations Report submitted by the Region on March 30, 2007. The Region is continuing to work towards meeting the objectives of the MOE's order and we will be meeting with the MOE, to be scheduled in the near future, to further discuss the timing and implementation of remedial measures. Residents should, therefore, not be surprised to see ongoing activity at the site as the Region continues to take necessary steps."
     
June 25, 2007:   The MOE's Response to the Site Operations Report and Response to Remedial Action Plan Comments has just been returned to Durham Region today.

June 13, 2007:   After the Site Operations Report review by the MOE has been returned to Durham, Durham will then prepare their final application and submit it to the approvals branch of the MOE for their approval.
     
June 5, 2007:   According to Shawn Carey of the Ministry of the Environment today - see his quote: "The Site Operations Report is currently under review by the ministry. We expect that our comments will be finalized within the next 1-2 weeks."
     
May 25, 2007:   After the Site Operations Report review by the MOE has been returned to Durham Region, Durham will then prepare their final application and submit it to the Approval's Branch of the MOE for approval. PLEASE make your calls of concern to the MOE TODAY!
     
May 19, 2007:   Some BAG members met with John Dewar of the Green party and took a tour of the Brock Dump. Their findings were alarming. On the south and east sides of the dump, there appears to be a great deal of seepage running into the marsh.
     
May 18, 2007:   An investigating officer of The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority was out to the dump site on Friday, May 18th. The results are not known as yet. What is frustrating is that there hasn't been a LSRCA officer at the dump site in over 5 years!
     
May 8, 2007:   On Tuesday May 8 from 7:00-10:00 p.m. BAG members are invited to attend an evening with Elizabeth May, the leader of the Green Party. She will be addressing local issues along with BAG's oppostion to the expansion of the Brock Dump. This is being held at the Sharon Temple.
     
May 2, 2007:   On Wednesday May 2 at 7:00 p.m. representatives from BAG made a presentation to the Environmental Advisory Committee at a meeting which took place at the Civic Centre in Georgina.
     
April 14, 2007:   Representatives from B.A.G. attended the Durham/York Residual Waste Study public information session at the municipal offices in Bowmanville. Information flyers are available thru B.A.G. Next meeting: April 21, 10-noon, 1778 Nash Rd, Courtice.
     
March 30, 2007:   Durham's SOR (Site Operations Report) was due to the MOE. This report describes current operational procedures including a staging plan for future landfilling and an estimate of site capacity. Please call the MOE with your concerns. Contact information can be found here.
     
March 24, 2007:   This morning B.A.G. held a rally/protest at the entrance to the Brock Dump. There was a great turnout of concerned citizens, Mayor O'Connor, some councillors from Brock and Georgina along with the A-Channel News and Karen Wolfe of The Pefferlaw Post. March 22, 2007:   On March 22nd there will be another Public Meeting in Cannington at the Legion at 7:30 p.m. This meeting will be new discussions about the next step that B.A.G. will be taking towards closing the Brock Dump. Hope to see you there.

March 14, 2007:   There was a public information meeting at the Pefferlaw Lions Hall. Dr. Marchuk informed the audience that in the dump area it may have unusually high fetal losses and birth defects. To view the article written in The Pefferlaw Post, check under 'Published Articles'. Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting.
     
March 13, 2007:   The BAG members and an enormous number of concerned citizens are voicing their concerns with the MOE (Ministry of the Environment) and Durham Region on the expansion of the Brock Dump and the proposal that Durham Region has put forward to the MOE.
     
February 23, 2007:   A member of BAG was speaking to the MOE today and they advised that their main concern right now is the leachate problem. They also advised that they would be making their decision concerning the first phase in the next week or so.
     
February 7, 2007:   Bad weather did not hinder a group of concerned citizens from Brock and Georgina who met in Cannington to hear the updated information on the Brock dump.  Thank you to everyone who attended.  YOU CAN HELP!  In the next 2-3 weeks the MOE will be making their decision on the first stage of the expansion of the Brock dump.  VOICE YOUR CONCERNS - check the "What YOU Can Do To Help" section of this website for MOE information.  Thank you.
     
January 24, 2007:   A group of BAG members attended the Durham Region Council Meeting. Durham Council ACCEPTED the waste management proposal to bring 120,000 tonnes of garbage from OUTSIDE Brock to fill the Brock Dump.  Click here to view the  COMPLETE  proposal.
     
January 31, 2007:   The Ministry of the Environment Provincial Officer's Order and Remedial Action Plan for Brock township dump's deadline up.
     
January 10, 2007:   A group of BAG members attended the Durham Regions Works Committee meeting.  The consulting firm Connestoga Rovers and Assoc. presented a variety of engineering options for action to be taken on the Brock Dump.
     
January 8, 2007:   A group of BAG members attended the Brock Concil meeting in Cannington.  Mr. Cliff Curtis, Commissioner of Works for Durham Region advised of the options they have for action to be taken on the Brock Dump.

September 14, 2006:   Durham Region has refused BAG's request for the specifics of the "Terms of Reference of an Assessment or Study" on the Brock Dump.  They have chosen to hide behind "solicitor and client priviledge" as their basis for their refusal.  What are they hiding?

September 13 & September 14:  
Durham and York Regions are holding Public Information Sessions on what criteria should be used when picking a site(s) for the plan to incinerate waste.  As concerned citizens of Brock and Georgina, we should all plan to attend one of these sessions.

The two closest locations are:

Wednesday, September 13th  York Region Administrative Centre, Seminar Room, Main Floor, 17250 Yonge St, Newmarket, ON

Thursday, September 14th -  Scugog Community Centre, 1655 Reach St., Port Perry, ON

All sessions run from 7:00 – 9:00 pm with a formal presentation slated to start at 7:30 pm.  For further information call  1–800 –372–1102, ext. 3731.  It is important to show our support to Durham/York Regions regarding this project.

     
August 17, 2006:   The Ministry of Health visited some of the local residents who live adjacent or close to the Brock dump to take water samples.

July 19, 2006:  
The Ministry of Health and Durham Region  officials met with BAG members who live adjacent or close to the dump area to discuss taking well water samples. The water samples where taken on August 17th.  The results should be back in about three weeks.
     
July 17, 2006:   BAG members convened in Keswick to listen to MPP Garfield Dunlop speak about the 'Lake Simcoe Protection Act'. BAG members addressed the panel both during and after the meeting regarding their concerns regarding the Brock Dump. Annabel Slate of 'The Ladies of the Lake' along with environmental lawyer David Donnolly also spoke about the importance of getting this act through the Ontario Legislature. By doing so, it is hoped that the major pollution problems plaguing Lake Simcoe can be solved by a joint effort of all municipalities surrounding the lake instead of each town attempting to clean up the problems on their own. June 29, 2006:   BAG members distributed information flyers in Pefferlaw at the round goby meeting held by the Ministry of Natural Resources.
     
June 24, 2006:   At the Wilfrid yard sale, BAG raised $250 towards having water testing done, spoke to more than 100 people and distributed over 60 flyers.
     
June 12, 2006:   The new B.A.G website was launched! Thank you Derek at Grapefruit Media for all the time and resources you have donated on this project.
     
June 10, 2006:   A group of B.A.G members handed out information flyers to appoximately 100 people that were entering the Brock Dump.
